Surah Ad-Dukhan (“The Smoke”) is the 44th surah of the Quran: a Makkan surah of 59 ayahs.
Background
A Makkan surah. Its name comes from the smoke (dukhan) that covers the sky (10–11), mentioned as a warning to the Quraysh.
Main themes
- The Quran revealed in a blessed night in which every wise matter is decided (3–4)
- Pharaoh and his people drowned, leaving gardens and springs behind
- The tree of Zaqqum, food of the sinner (43–46)

حمٓ ١
Ha, Meem.
وَٱلْكِتَٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ ٢
By the clear Book,
إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍۢ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ ٣
Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].
