Surah Al-Fatiha
Recited as ruqyah by the Companions with the Prophet’s approval (Bukhari 5736).
Healing and protection through the Quran and the du‘as of the Prophet ﷺ — for the evil eye, magic, jinn, illness and anxiety. Listen, read along, and do it yourself.
All the ruqyah ayahs one after another, in the reciter you choose.
Ruqyah is seeking healing and protection from Allah by reciting His words — the Quran — and the du‘as taught by the Prophet ﷺ, over oneself or someone else. It is a Sunnah: the Prophet ﷺ did it, had it done for him, and allowed it.
“Show me your ruqyahs. There is no harm in ruqyah as long as it contains no shirk.” — Muslim 2200
When a Companion recited Surah Al-Fatiha over a man who had been stung and he recovered, the Prophet ﷺ asked, “How did you know it is a ruqyah?” (Bukhari 5736, Muslim 2201).
Ruqyah does not replace medicine. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seek treatment, for Allah has not made a disease without making a cure for it” (Abu Dawud 3855). Use both, trusting in Allah.
If you are ruqyah-ing someone else, recite near them and blow lightly over them or over water they will drink; a male and female who are not mahram should keep the limits of Islam.
“The evil eye is real.” — Bukhari 5740, Muslim 2187
The Prophet ﷺ told his wife to have ruqyah done for the evil eye (Bukhari 5738). Signs people notice include sudden illness, loss of appetite or sleep, or a child who cries without cause after being admired — but only Allah knows for sure; see a doctor as well.
Magic is real and its harm happens only by Allah’s permission.
Shaytan cannot harm a believer who keeps close to Allah. Ayat al-Kursi at bedtime keeps a guardian from Allah over you until morning (Bukhari 2311), and the last two ayahs of Al-Baqarah at night suffice (Bukhari 5009).
When a family member fell ill, the Prophet ﷺ would wipe him with his right hand and say Adhhibil-ba’s, Rabban-nas … (Bukhari 5743). Recite Al-Fatiha and the “healing ayahs”, put your hand on the pain, and use the du‘as marked “illness”.
Visiting the sick and saying As’alullahal-‘Azim … seven times is a Sunnah (Abu Dawud 3106).
Many scholars allow reciting the ayahs and du‘as over water, then drinking it and washing with it, and reciting over olive oil and rubbing it on the body — the Prophet ﷺ said of olive oil, “Eat it and anoint yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree” (Tirmidhi 1851). Recite with the mouth near the water, blowing lightly; do not throw such water in impure places.
Honey and black seed are also taught as healing (An-Nahl 69; Bukhari 5688).
“Ruqyahs (of shirk), amulets and love-charms are shirk.” — Abu Dawud 3883
Recited as ruqyah by the Companions with the Prophet’s approval (Bukhari 5736).
At bedtime: a guardian from Allah stays with you till morning (Bukhari 2311).
Whoever recites them at night, they suffice him (Bukhari 5009).
The six ayahs that speak of healing (shifa’).
Three times each; blow into your hands and wipe your body (Bukhari 5017, Abu Dawud 5082).
Remove the harm, Lord of mankind, and heal — You are the Healer; there is no healing but Your healing — a healing that leaves no illness behind.
In the name of Allah I do ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah heal you. In the name of Allah I do ruqyah for you.
Say “Bismillah” three times, then seven times: “I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.”
O Allah, Lord of mankind, remover of harm, heal — You are the Healer, there is no healer but You — a healing that leaves no illness behind.
I ask Allah the Mighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to heal you.
In the name of Allah, the soil of our land with the saliva of some of us — our sick is healed, by the permission of our Lord.
I place you under the protection of the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and poisonous creature, and from every harmful eye.
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the promptings of the devils and from their coming to me.
There is no god but Allah, the Mighty, the Forbearing; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth and Lord of the Noble Throne.
What Allah wills; there is no power except with Allah — O Allah, bless it.
Ruqyah is a means; the Healer is Allah alone. Keep seeing a doctor for any illness.
