Surah Al-Ma'un (“Almsgiving”) is the 107th surah of the Quran: a Makkan surah of 7 ayahs.
Background
A short surah linking faith to everyday conduct — how one treats the orphan, the poor and the neighbour.
Main themes
- He who repulses the orphan (2)
- And does not urge feeding the poor (3)
- Woe to those who are heedless of their prayer and pray to be seen (4–6)
- And withhold small kindnesses (7)
The opening ayahs
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
