তিনি বলেন, আল্লাহর রাসূল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম আমাকে বললেনঃ হে ‘আবদুল্লাহ! আমি এ সংবাদ পেয়েছি যে, তুমি প্রতিদিন সওম পালন কর এবং সারা রাত সালাত আদায় করে থাক। আমি বললাম, ঠিক (শুনেছেন) হে আল্লাহর রাসূল! তিনি বললেনঃ এরূপ করবে না (বরং মাঝে মাঝে) সওম পালন কর আবার ছেড়েও দাও। (রাতে) সালাত আদায় কর আবার ঘুমাও। কেননা তোমার উপর তোমার শরীরের হাক্ব রয়েছে, তোমার চোখের হাক্ব রয়েছে, তোমার উপর তোমার স্ত্রীর হাক্ব আছে, তোমার মেহমানের হাক্ব আছে। তোমার জন্য যথেষ্ট যে, তুমি প্রত্যেক মাসে তিন দিন সওম পালন কর। কেননা নেক ‘আমলের বদলে তোমার জন্য রয়েছে দশগুণ নেকী। এভাবে সারা বছরের সওম হয়ে যায়। আমি (বললাম) আমি এর চেয়েও কঠোর ‘আমল করতে সক্ষম। তখন আমাকে আরও কঠিন ‘আমলের অনুমতি দেয়া হল। আমি বললাম, হে আল্লাহর রাসূল! আমি আরো বেশি শক্তি রাখি। তিনি বললেনঃ তবে আল্লাহর নবী দাঊদ (আঃ)-এর সওম পালন কর, এর হতে বেশি করতে যেয়ো না। আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, আল্লাহর নবী দাঊদ (আঃ)-এর সওম কেমন? তিনি বললেনঃ অর্ধেক বছর। রাবী বলেন, ‘আবদুল্লাহ (রাঃ) বৃদ্ধ বয়সে বলতেন, আহা! আমি যদি নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম প্রদত্ত রুখসত (সহজতর বিধান) কবূল করে নিতাম! Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "O `Abdullah! Have I not been informed that you fast during the day and offer prayers all the night." `Abdullah replied, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Don't do that; fast for few days and then give it up for few days, offer prayers and also sleep at night, as your body has a right on you, and your wife has a right on you, and your guest has a right on you. And it is sufficient for you to fast three days in a month, as the reward of a good deed is multiplied ten times, so it will be like fasting throughout the year." I insisted (on fasting) and so I was given a hard instruction. I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have power." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Fast like the fasting of the Prophet David (ﷺ) and do not fast more than that." I said, "How was the fasting of the Prophet of Allah, David (ﷺ)?" He said, "Half of the year," (i.e. he used to fast on every alternate day). Afterwards when `Abdullah became old, he used to say, "It would have been better for me if I had accepted the permission of the Prophet (which he gave me i.e. to fast only three days a month)
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ، أَخْبَرَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ يَعْنِي " إِنَّ لِزَوْرِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا، وَإِنَّ لِزَوْجِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا ". فَقُلْتُ وَمَا صَوْمُ دَاوُدَ قَالَ " نِصْفُ الدَّهْرِ ".
‘আবদুল্লাহ ইবনু ‘আমর ইবনুল ‘আস (রাঃ) হতে বর্ণিত:
তিনি বলেন, আল্লাহর রাসূল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম আমার কাছে এলেন। এরপর তিনি [‘আবদুল্লাহ (রাঃ)] হাদীসটি বর্ণনা করেন অর্থাৎ ‘‘তোমার উপর মেহমানের হাক্ব আছে, তোমার উপর তোমার স্ত্রীর হাক্ব আছে।’’ আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, সওমে দাঊদ (‘আ) কি? তিনি বললেন, ‘‘অর্ধেক বছর’’ (-এর সওম পালন করা)। (১১৩১) (আধুনিক প্রকাশনীঃ ১৮৩৫, ইসলামিক ফাউন্ডেশনঃ)
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As:
"Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to me," and then he narrated the whole narration, i.e. your guest has a right on you, and your wife has a right on you. I then asked about the fasting of David. The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "Half of the year," (i.e. he used to fast on every alternate day)
তিনি বলেন, আল্লাহর রাসূল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম -এর নিকট আমার সম্পর্কে এ কথা পৌঁছে যায় যে, আমি বলেছি, আল্লাহর কসম, আমি যতদিন বেঁচে থাকব ততদিন সওম পালন করব এবং রাতভর সালাত আদায় করব। তিনি আমাকে জিজ্ঞেস করায় আমি বললাম, আপনার উপর আমার পিতা-মাতা কুরবান হোন! আমি এ কথা বলেছি। তিনি বললেনঃ তুমি তো এরূপ করতে সক্ষম হবে না। বরং তুমি সওম পালন কর ও ছেড়েও দাও, (রাতে) সালাত আদায় কর ও নিদ্রাও যাও। তুমি মাসে তিন দিন করে সওম পালন কর, কারণ নেক কাজের ফল তার দশগুণ; এভাবেই সারা বছরের সওম পালন হয়ে যাবে। আমি বললাম, আমি এর হতে বেশি করার সামর্থ্য রাখি। তিনি বললেনঃ তাহলে একদিন সওম পালন কর এবং দু’দিন ছেড়ে দাও। আমি বললাম, আমি এর হতে বেশি করার শক্তি রাখি। তিনি বললেনঃ তাহলে একদিন সওম পালন কর আর একদিন ছেড়ে দাও। এ হল দাঊদ (আঃ)-এর সওম এবং এ হল সর্বোত্তম (সওম)। আমি বললাম, আমি এর চেয়ে বেশি করার সামর্থ্য রাখি। নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম বললেনঃ এর চেয়ে উত্তম সওম (রাখার পদ্ধতি) আর নেই। (১১৩১) (আধুনিক প্রকাশনীঃ ১৮৩৭, ইসলামিক ফাউন্ডেশনঃ)
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was informed that I had taken an oath to fast daily and to pray (every night) all the night throughout my life (so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to me and asked whether it was correct): I replied, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you! I said so." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You can not do that. So, fast for few days and give it up for few days, offer Salat (prayer) and sleep. Fast three days a month as the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times and that will be equal to one year of fasting." I replied, "I can do better than that." The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Fast one day and give up fasting for two days." I replied, "I can do better than that." The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Fast one day and give up fasting for a day and that is the fasting of Prophet David and that is the best fasting." I said, "I have the power to fast better (more) than that." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "There is no better fasting than that
حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَنَسًا رضى الله عنه عَنْ صِيَامِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتُ أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَرَاهُ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ صَائِمًا إِلاَّ رَأَيْتُهُ وَلاَ مُفْطِرًا إِلاَّ رَأَيْتُهُ، وَلاَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ قَائِمًا إِلاَّ رَأَيْتُهُ، وَلاَ نَائِمًا إِلاَّ رَأَيْتُهُ، وَلاَ مَسِسْتُ خَزَّةً وَلاَ حَرِيرَةً أَلْيَنَ مِنْ كَفِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَلاَ شَمِمْتُ مِسْكَةً وَلاَ عَبِيرَةً أَطْيَبَ رَائِحَةً مِنْ رَائِحَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم.
হুমাইদ (রহ.) হতে বর্ণিত:
তিনি বলেন, আমি আনাস (রাঃ)-কে নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম -এর (নফল) সওমের ব্যাপারে জিজ্ঞেস করলে তিনি বললেন, যে কোন মাসে আমি তাঁকে সওম পালনরত অবস্থায় দেখতে চেয়েছি, তাঁকে সে অবস্থায় দেখেছি, আবার তাঁকে সওম পালন না করা অবস্থায় দেখতে চাইলে তাও দেখতে পেয়েছি। রাতে যদি তাঁকে সালাত আদায়রত অবস্থায় দেখতে চেয়েছি, তা প্রত্যক্ষ করেছি। আবার ঘুমন্ত দেখতে চাইলে তাও দেখতে পেয়েছি। আমি আল্লাহর রাসূল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম -এর হাত মুবারক হতে নরম কোন পশমী বা রেশমী কাপড় স্পর্শ করি নাই। আর আমি তাঁর (শরীরের) ঘ্রাণ হতে অধিক সুগন্ধযুক্ত কোন মিশক বা আম্বর পাইনি। (১১৪১) (আধুনিক প্রকাশনীঃ ১৮৩৪, ইসলামিক ফাউন্ডেশনঃ)
Narrated Humaid:
I asked Anas about the fasting of the Prophet. He said "Whenever I liked to see the Prophet (ﷺ) fasting in any month, I could see that, and whenever I liked to see him not fasting, I could see that too, and if I liked to see him praying in any night, I could see that, and if I liked to see him sleeping, I could see that, too." Anas further said, "I never touched silk or velvet softer than the hand of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and never smelled musk or perfumed smoke more pleasant than the smell of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
