Hadith 248
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ الْإِيَامِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ صَلَاةُ السَّفَرِ رَكْعَتَانِ وَصَلَاةُ الْأَضْحَى رَكْعَتَانِ وَصَلَاةُ الْفِطْرِ رَكْعَتَانِ وَصَلَاةُ الْجُمُعَةِ رَكْعَتَانِ تَمَامٌ غَيْرُ قَصْرٍ عَلَى لِسَانِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ وَقَالَ زُبَيْدٌ مَرَّةً أُرَاهُ عَنْ عُمَرَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَلَى غَيْرِ وَجْهِ الشَّكِّ و قَالَ يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هَارُونَ ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ‏.‏

Narrated It was narrated that ‘Umar said:

The prayer when travelling is two rak`ahs, the prayer of ul-Fitr is two rak`ahs and the prayer of Jumu`ah is two rak`ahs, complete not shortened, as stated by Muhammad (ﷺ), Sufyan said: On one occasion Zubaid said: I think he was narrating it from ʼUmar. ‘Abdur-Rahman said: Without a doubt. Yazeed - i.e., bin Haroon bin Abi Laila - said: l heard `Umar.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ صُبَيِّ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ التَّغْلِبِيِّ قَالَ كُنْتُ حَدِيثَ عَهْدٍ بِنَصْرَانِيَّةٍ فَأَرَدْتُ الْجِهَادَ أَوْ الْحَجَّ فَأَتَيْتُ رَجُلًا مِنْ قَوْمِي يُقَالُ لَهُ هُدَيْمٌ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَأَمَرَنِي بِالْحَجِّ فَقَرَنْتُ بَيْنَ الْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ فَذَكَرَهُ‏.

Narrated It was narrated that Subayy bin Ma`bad al-Taghlibi said:

I had recently converted from Christianity and I wanted to go for jihad or for Hajj, I went to a man of my people whose name was Hudaim, and asked him, and he told me to do Hajj, So I did qiran (Hajj and `Umrah together).

Hadith 249
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ وَجَدَ فَرَسًا كَانَ حَمَلَ عَلَيْهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَهَا فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَهَاهُ وَقَالَ لَا تَعُودَنَّ فِي صَدَقَتِكَ‏.‏

Narrated It was narrated from Zaid bin Aslam from his father from `Umar that:

He found a horse that he had given to someone (for jihad) for the sake of Allah being offered for sale in the marketplace, and he wanted to buy it. He asked the Prophet (ﷺ) and he told him not to do that and said: “Do not take back your charity.`

Hadith 246
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَنْ أَعْتَكِفَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ لَيْلَةً فَقَالَ لَهُ فَأَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ

Narrated It was narrated from ʼUmar that he said:

O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), I vowed during the jahiliyyah to observe i’tikaf for one night in al-Masjid al-Haram. He said to him: “Fulfil your vow.”
