Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported:Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) sent us (on an expedition), and we were three hundred in number, and we were carrying our bags of provisions around our necks

Amr reported on the authority of Jabir that in the expedition of Khabat (leaves) a person slaughtered three camels, then three, then three, then Abu 'Ubaida forbade him (to do so fearing that the rides may become short)
তিনি বলেন, রসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম আবূ উবাইদাহ ইবনু জাররাহ (রাযিঃ)-কে তাদের আমীর নিযুক্ত করে তিনশ' লোকের একটি বাহিনী পাঠালেন। তাদের পাথেয় প্রায় শেষ হয়ে গেলে আবূ উবাইদাহ (রাযিঃ) সকলের পাথেয় একই পাত্রে জমা করে আমাদের প্রত্যেকের দৈনন্দিন খাদ্য সরবরাহ করতেন। তখন আমাদের প্রত্যেকের ভাগে দৈনিক একটি করে খেজুর পড়তো। (ইসলামিক ফাউন্ডেশন ৪৮৪৭, ইসলামিক সেন্টার)
Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent on in expedition a detachment consisting of three hundred (persons) and appointed Abu 'Ubaida b. Jarrah as their chief. Their provisions ran short:'Abu 'Ubaida collected their provisions in the provision bag. and he fed us (for some time). Later on when the provisions ran short he gave us one date every day
আবদুল জাব্বার ইবনু 'আলা (রহঃ) ..... জাবির ইবনু আবদুল্লাহ (রাযিঃ) কে বলতে শুনেছেন যে, রসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম আমাদেরকে একটি অভিযানে পাঠালেন। আমরা তিনশ' আরোহী ছিলাম এবং আবূ উবাইদাহ ইবনু জাররাহ (রাযিঃ) ছিলেন আমাদের দলনেতা। আমরা কুরায়শের একটি কাফেলার জন্য ওৎ পেতে ছিলাম। অর্ধমাস পর্যন্ত আমরা সমুদ্রোপকূলে অবস্থান করলাম। তখন আমরা খুবই খাদ্যাভাবে পড়লাম এবং আমরা (বাধ্য হয়ে) গাছের পাতা খেলাম। তাই এ বাহিনীর নাম দেয়া হলো 'জাইশুল খাবাত' বা লতা-পাতার বাহিনী। এ সময় সমুদ্র আমাদের জন্য একটি জন্তু (বিরাট মাছ) নিক্ষেপ করলো- যাকে 'আম্বর' বলা হয়। আমরা অর্ধমাস পর্যন্ত তা খেলাম এবং তার তেল আমাদের গায়ে মালিশ করলাম, তাতে আমাদের দেহ মোটাতাজা হয়ে উঠলো। বর্ণনাকারী বলেন, আবূ উবাইদাহ (রাযিঃ) জন্তুটির পাঁজরের একটি হাড় নিয়ে খাড়া করলেন, তারপর বাহিনীর সবচেয়ে লম্বা লোকটি এবং উচ্চতর উটটির উপরে তুলে ধরলেন। তারপর ঐ ব্যক্তিটিকে ঐ উটের উপর চড়িয়ে দিলেন। আর সে অনায়াসে এর নিচ দিয়ে অতিক্রম করে গেল। ঐ জন্তুটির চোখের কোটরে অনেকগুলো লোক একত্রে বসলেন। রাবী বলেন, আর আমরা তার চোখ থেকে এত এত কলস ভর্তি চর্বি বের করি। বর্ণনাকারী আরও বলেন, তখন আমাদের নিকট এক বস্তা খেজুর ছিল। আবূ উবাইদাহ (রাযিঃ) প্রথমে আমাদের প্রত্যেককে এক মুষ্টি করে খেজুর দিলেন। তারপর শেষদিকে তিনি আমাদের জনপ্রতি একটি করে খেজুর দিতেন। যখন তাও শেষ হয়ে গেল তখন আমরা অভাব অনুভব করলাম। (ইসলামিক ফাউন্ডেশন ৪৮৪৪, ইসলামিক সেন্টার)
Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported:Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) sent us (on an expedition). We were three hundred riders and our chief (leader) was 'Ubaida b. al-Jarrah. We were on the look out for a caravan of the Quraish. So we stayed on the coast for half a month, and were so much afflicted by extreme hunger that we (were obliged) to eat leaves. That is why it was called the Detachment of the Leaves. The ocean cast out for us an animal which was called al-'Anbar (whale). We ate of that for half of the month and rubbed its fat on our (bodies) until our bodies became stout. Abu 'Ubaida caught hold of one of its ribs and fixed that up. He then cast a glance at the tallest man of the army and the highest of the camels. and then made him ride over that, and that-tnan passed beneath it (the rib), and many a man could sit in its eye-socket, and we extracted many pitchers of fat from the cavity of its eye. We had small bags containing dates with us (before finding the whale). 'Ubaida gave every person amongst us a handful of dates (and when the provision ran short), he then gave each one of us one date. And when that (stock) was exhausted, we felt its loss
