Surah An-Naba (“The Announcement”) is the 78th surah of the Quran: a Makkan surah of 40 ayahs.
Background
A Makkan surah and the first of the 30th juz (juz ‘Amma). It answers those who argued about the resurrection.
Main themes
- The earth as a resting place and the mountains as pegs (6–7)
- Sleep for rest, night as a covering, day for livelihood (9–11)
- The Day of Decision is an appointed time (17)
- The disbeliever will wish, “Would that I were dust!” (40)

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ١

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٢
About the great news -
ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ ٣
That over which they are in disagreement.
